summary

In the book “The Great Gatsby” the story is narrated by this guy, Nick Carraway, who moved from Minnesota all the way to New York City. This guy buys a little apartment on the western side of the city. Here is where most rich people live. Next to his house is a big mansion that is the property of Jay Gatsby. Nick has a cousin named Daisy, whom is married with tom Buchanan. These two people are in an unhappy marriage.

In the mansion of Jay Gatsby there are many parties, but a lot of people do not know him. In one parry, which Nick attended, he meets this character when he offers him a drink. Nick and Gatsby become very good friends. There is a reason of why Gatsby becomes nick´s friend. Gatsby is in love with Nick´s cousin, Daisy. Nick helps Gatsby get along with daisy again. Yes, again because they were young lovers time ago, but since Jay Gatsby was a soldier and was going to war, Daisy told him that she will wait for him and then got married with Tom. When Gatsby noticed that he started working on selling liquor illegally. This job gave him a great fortune, and he thought that with that money she will impress Daisy.

One day Daisy and Gatsby were driving back home and accidentally Daisy runs over Myrtle, Tom´s lover. Tom didn’t really loved Myrtle, instead he only used her. After the accident Gatsby takes the responsibility to cover up Daisy. Tom tells George Wilson, Myrtle’s husband that Gatsby was the one who ran over his wife. George went to Gatsby´s mansion and while he was floating in the pool he shot him. Then George committed suicide.

My opinion

This book has a very good story from the first page until the last page. The author did a great job by relating Daisy and Gatsby´s past with the future like he did telling us about the times that Gatsby was a soldier.  I was expecting that the end would be different, but even with the end it has I still thing is a very good. That and that the author introduces a lot of characters that are not very important in the story are the 2 things I didn’t like. I Loved the way that Jay Gatsby appeared for the first time in the book when he introduces himself with Nick when he offers him a drink. Then Nick comments that it was strange he hadn’t seen the host, then Gatsby introduces himself. I also liked how the author shows how the life of a rich and of a poor is by dividing the city in “east egg” and “west egg”.

A lot of people told me that “the great Gatsby” was a very good book. In fact it is, and I would definitely recommend it to any person who would ask me for an awesome book to read. Except it is an elementary kid, because it has a lot of difficult words and he wouldn’t be able to understand.

the book does not have an open ending, so you cant really infer nothing about the future of the characters, but keep living as they used to live in the beginning of the book. Tom and Daisy to keep having an Unhappy marriage, Jordan to focus more on golf. these is what i think is the future for the most important characters in the book.

the mayor conflict in this novel is that Jay Gatsby and Daisy couldn't be together because of Daisy´s husband Tom Buchanan. since Tom knew that Daisy and Gatsby loved each other he was afraid to lose Daisy so he Told George Wilson that Jay Gatsby was the one who ran over his wife Myrtle and George went to Gatsby's house and killed him.

the theme for this book in one sentence is "money can buy EVERYTHING but love and happiness." this is the theme because even Jay Gatsby is rich he wasn't able to marry Daisy, even he showed his mansion, he owned a Rolls Royce, he always made parties, etc. Gatsby spent a lot of money in trying to marry Daisy, but that's not what he needed to marry her.

in the book the author tells always where are the characters, if in the East egg or in the West egg. in the East egg is where the traditional people live. usually people with not a lot of money live here. in the other hand, the West egg is where rich people normally live. this has a great impact on the book because the book is always happening with wealthy and poor people the author always mentions if the character is rich or poor, because this book is mostly about wealthy people.

in the book they mention the valley of ashes and it is a street in New York where all of the wastes are placed. in the book it describes the valley of ashes as a farm where ashes grow as whet and other plants. in this same street is when nick and jay Gatsby are asked to stop by a policeman because they were going too fast but Gatsby showed him a white card and the policeman did not charge a anything and he just went away.

so far i have only met 4 characters. nick, daisy, tom Buchanan, and Jordan Baker. daisy´s husband is tom, a British man who is a wealthy man. he is a person with no values. Tom was with Nick in yale in his social club. Daisy is nick´s cousin and Tom´s wife. so far we don´t know a lot about her. Jordan Baker is a professional golf player that is in tom´s house when Nick visits his cousin. Nick is the narrator and he is a person with values who moved from Minnesota to New York.

the narrator is the main character named Nick Carraway. nick moved to New York, because he got a job there. his house is next to a mansion from Gatsby. i know that nick is the narrator because he only tells what he sees and he talks in first person. you know he´s the narrator since the beggining because the book starts "in my younger and more vulnerable years my father game me some advice that i......" since he´s talking with i we know he is the narrator.

why?
